Tenerife an island of contrasts
Things to see & do whilst on Holiday in Tenerife
If you are going on holiday in Tenerife, then exploring the island and venturing out of Los Cristianos is a must. The best ways to see Tenerife are to hire a car and explore by yourself, or book one of the round the island coach tours which operate several times per week.
Mount Teide & Las Cañadas National Park
Mount Teide is the centre-piece of the island, standing 3718m tall it is the highest peak in Spanish territory and highest (dormant) volcano in Europe. A cable car will take you within a few hundred feet of the summit, on a clear day the views are unrivalled.

Mount Teide is surrounded by the volcanic landscape of Las Cañadas National Park. This stunning natural ampetheatre boasts fascinating volcanic features including cinder-cones and lava flows from historic eruptions.
The Cliffs of Los Gigantes
The small town of Los Gigantes is famous for its stunning cliffs which rise 600m above the sea. Enjoy a dolphin safari around the cliffs or if you are feeling energic take a tour in a sea-kayak.
The "lost village" of Masca
The picturesque village of Masca nestled in the Teno peninsula is one of the most remote settlements on the island. It has a classic and traditional Canarian flavour and a population of just 100. Masca is popular with hikers as there is a 8km walk down the beautiful gorge to the sea where you can be collected by one of the pleasure cruises returning to Los Gigantes.
The Dragon Tree of Icod
Rumoured to be over 2000 years old, the ancient Dragon Tree of Icod is a protected species endemic to Tenerife. Although not as old as legends suggest, the tree is a postcard favourite for holiday-makers and worth a visit if you are in the north of the island.
The Pine Forests
The mountains of Tenerife are covered in a rich green pine forest. Here you will find picnic and BBQ areas which make a great destination for a family day out.
Theme Parks and Attractions
As well as the natural scenery, Tenerife is home to a number of theme-parks attractions including the Siam Park (water-park) and Loro Parque (Zoo). You can also enjoy a number of pleasure cruises, dolphin safaris and deep-sea fishing which leave from the harbour in Los Critianos or nearby Puerto Colon.
